The EQUUS Foundation, Inc. was founded as an IRS tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) charity in August 2002 to raise public awareness of the value of horses in society through education and the award of grants to charities that use the horse to benefit the public, promote horse welfare, and elevate the equestrian sport.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has awarded over $1.1 million in grants since our first awards in 2003. The Foundation was born from the passionate belief shared by millions of people of all ages that horses play an important role in society in the competitive sports arena and in our everyday lives.
50 charities received grants in 2008 in three funding areas. We hope you will visit the websites of these charities and read about their compelling stories.

Public welfare grants are awarded for therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities for individuals with physical, emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities, life-threatening or other serious illnesses, and underserved, economically-disadvantaged and "at-risk" youth across the United States.
Horses Enrich & Empower Our Lives!
Bonding with these gentle giants produces many emotional and cognitive benefits: empowerment, motivation, improved self-esteem, problem-solving, decision-making, memory development, self-expression, ability to follow direction attention to detail, and the willingness to face challenges. The relationship builds cooperation, independence, patience, trust, and hope – not only for the participants but for their families and care-givers.
EQUUS Horse Welfare grants support horse rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and retirement programs. Funds are used for feed, supplements, tack, grooming supplies, horse gear, farrier, veterinary care, equipment, and capital improvements. Equine ambulance services as well as veterinary education and research have also received funding.
Sport welfare grants are awarded to promote the sport, including funding for scholarships, awards, land conservation, youth programs, and pubic education programs. EQUUS grants also provide relief to equestrians suffering from life threatening illness, catastrophic accidents or injuries.
The physical benefits include enhanced spinal stimulation, sensory integration, motor, respiratory and postural control, balance, dexterity, coordination, endurance, fitness, and muscle strength and tone.
Contributions directly benefit thousands of horses and people. We'd like to make them help millions with your help. Donate Now>>
