About Our Organization The EQUUS Foundation was founded as an IRS tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) charity in August 2002 and awarded its first grants in August 2003. The EQUUS Foundation, Inc. is incorporated in the state of Connecticut. The Foundation was born from the passionate belief shared by millions of people of all ages that horses play an important role in society in the competitive sports arena and in our everyday lives. By bringing together individuals and organizations with charities focused on equestrian and horse-related issues and providing financial and volunteer support as well as guidance and insight on their management and fiscal practices, The EQUUS Foundation is enhancing the ability of these charities to accomplish their missions and building a more sustainable environment for horses and for the people whose lives they are benefiting. Horses have existed for 50 million years, predating man, but once their partnership was forged, no other animal has matched the contributions that horses have made to civilization. Horses continue to make a significant contribution. They are heroes to millions of people – this is the message of The EQUUS Foundation and the inspiration for its mission. |
