Why are we a Messenger?
The EQUUS Foundation has designated our organization as a Messenger. Click here to learn more about our horse care and use practices.
Messengers are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations.
Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.
25% of our total programs and services are horse-related.
Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.
Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The Equestrian Center at Ark Regional Services provides a unique equine experience for children and adults with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities. Mounted and unmounted sessions tailored toward individual needs and goals foster positive outcomes for physical, emotional, mental, and behavioral skill growth.
The Equestrian Center has a full-time COTA and part-time OT who provide Hippotherapy and therapeutic riding to children and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. The Equestrian Center is in the process of expanding our services to include other members of the community by partnering with the local school district and mental heath care professionals to provide equine-facilitated learning and equine-facilitated psychotherapy. We provide community integration services to adults on the Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver by creating opportunities to groom and care for the horses. We are also the local ADM dealer and sell a complete line of feed and supplements. Throughout the year, the Equestrian Center offers outreach and education opportunities to the community through tours and various other activities.
Each year we raise two pigs to be raffled off as a fundraiser for the Equestrian Center. The feed line that we sell includes a variety of other animal feeds, including show feeds for the local 4-H members. The Equestrian Center also houses a hoop house and raised beds where a variety of horticulture classes are taught to adults on the Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver.
Other programs provided by Ark Regional Services include:
The Cooper Center for Creative Arts--The focus of this program is to provide the venue, education, and supplies that are necessary for an artist...any artist...to create masterpieces. We envision a community in which there is a culture of diversity and appreciation for all artists.
Acquired Brain Injury Services--Ark Regional Services recognizes the difficulties associated with living with an acquired brain injury. Respect and trust are paramount to our services as we help people navigate the transition back into employment and independent living.
Developmental / Intellectual Disability Services--Because people have individualized needs and levels of ability, we realize that there cannot be a one size fits all approach to supporting them. Our philosophy has always been to provide people with the support they need and to facilitate opportunities for them to be involved in the things that are important to them. Our foundation is dignity, respect, and quality.
Within each of the above programs, a variety of services are available to people depending on their level of needed support. These services include community employment, community integration, supervised living, supported living, and therapy services.
