Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The Carriage Barn Equine Assisted Therapy programs seek to promote the health and well-being of individuals of all ages with disabilities by enhancing their physical, psychological, cognitive and emotional healing and strengthening through equine activities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Lesson Sidewalker
Minimum Age: 14
Help our clients during their lessons. Sidewalkers help clients feel stable and secure during their lessons. This can include mounting, the actual ride, and dismounting. Some clients need a great deal of support and others far less. No prior experience needed-we will train you before we begin.

Horse Leader
Minimum Age: 14
Help with some of our therapeutic lessons by leading the horse for our clients. Volunteers are responsible for leading the horse throughout the lesson, following the client's cues to the horse, and the instructor's directions. No prior horses experience required-we will train you before you begin.

Horse Care
Minimum Age: 14
Help us with grooming and caring for the horses used in our therapeutic programs. Volunteers can also help exercise the horses if they have riding experience or would like to learn how to ride.

Barn Help
Minimum Age: 14
Come and help us with our daily barn chores. Tasks include turnout and bringing in of horses, feeding horses, cleaning stalls, and other barn cleanup and maintenance. Help us care for our wonderful therapy horses and work with a great team of volunteers!

Wish List Items

Cones
We use cones on a daily basis in our lessons and activities. Cones of various colors can help us do so many things but they are expensive.

Barn Supplies
We can always use brooms, pitchforks, shovels, and any other farm or garden tool someone might want to give us.
