Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The National Ability Center (NAC) exists to transform the lives of individuals of all abilities by building self esteem, confidence, and lifetime skills through sport, recreation and educational programs.

The NAC’s Equestrian program began in 1989 and includes Therapeutic Horseback Riding, Hippotherapy, and Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) program offerings, as well as equestrian program components in summer camps for children with disabilities.

Volunteer Opportunities

Pony Up!
Minimum Age: 18
The National Ability Center warmly welcomes volunteers to assist us on Therapeutic Riding lessons. Your role includes lead or side walking the horse during a 50-minute lesson. You are an extra hand on the lesson, and will enjoy working alongside talented instructors, as well as witnessing the exciting progress of the participant. We require that you attend a volunteer orientation as well as an equestrian specific volunteer training. Advanced volunteer opportunities are also available in our Hippotherapy & Equine Facilitated Learning Programs. Please contact the National Ability Center for more detail.
