Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Hunkapi is the horse program with heart and a name you will never forget. Hunkapi, a Native American word translated to mean \"I am related to everyone,\" offers horse programs for individuals with emotional, behavioral, and physical challenges that emphasize learning about relationships with yourself and others.

Horse-related programs:
The Hunkapi program was founded through the research of Dr. Debbie Crews of Arizona State University in 1999. After three years of research investigating sports on attention and self-esteem, Dr. Crews discovered that an eight-week horseback riding program yielded the most positive attention and self-esteem changes to children suffering from autism, attention deficit, and emotional disorders.

Since 1999, the Hunkapi program has expanded to offer not only traditional and therapeutic riding, but also equine assisted psychotherapy. 75% of our clients are diagnosed with emotional, psychotic, or developmental disorders. The mission of Hunkapi Farms is to be a sustainable, therapeutic farm dedicated to healing, empowering and employing individuals with diverse abilities.

Non-horse-related programs:
In addition to offering therapeutic riding and equine assisted psychotherapy, our program has also recently expanded to offer horticulture therapy. No additional animals, besides horses, are involved in our program.
