Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Horse Welfare

Our organization operates programs involved with horse rescue, foster care, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement.

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.


Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Central Virginia Horse Rescue, Inc (CVHR) is a GFAS Verified 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the compassionate care of equines. Our mission is to save, protect, and rehabilitate equines in need. We rescue unwanted, abused, neglected, or abandoned equines; provide them with care and rehabilitation; and finally find them a compatible, loving home. We believe that education is the long-term solution to improving the lives of equines.


Volunteer Opportunities


Barn Tech 1
Minimum Age: 14
To keep farm buildings, pastures, horses tack, and water troughs free of debris and clean for the horses safety and health.
Responsibilities:
Mucks stalls, cleans pastures, cleans water troughs, sweeps barn floors, cleans tack, keeps tack room, feed barn and medications area in a neat and orderly fashion. Must check in with manager before beginning work each day. Must sign in and out on the time sheet.
Qualifications:
Must be willing to work outdoors, willing to learn to thoroughly clean troughs, muck stalls, pastures and assists in cleaning tack.

Equine Specialist
Minimum Age: 16
Purpose of Position:
To help train our horses to have good ground manners and keep them groomed and handled.

Responsibilities:
Working directly with the horses and training them using natural horsemanship techniques to ensure that they meet minimum ground handling requirements: Lead, load, tie, stand for grooming, respect for personal space, etc. To consult horse's goals sheet and work with horses to obtain those goals. Grooming and handling horses.

All responsibilities of Barn Tech.

Qualifications:
Must be willing and able to work with the horses. Must be willing to learn natural horsemanship techniques to overcome issues and obstacles that each horse has.

Therapeutic Programs Director
We are looking for a therapeutic director to develop programs for Wounded Warriors, Disadvantaged Children, and other types of equine therapy. This is a chance to combine your love of horses with the therapy that they provide.

General Farm Maintenance
We are looking for a volunteer or two to be responsible for general maintenance around the rescue. This can include repairs to buildings, fencing, building sheds, plumbing, etc. Help to keep our rescue safe for the horses.
