The EQUUS Foundation, Inc. was founded as an IRS tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) charity in August 2002 to raise public awareness of the value of horses in society through education and the award of grants to charities that use the horse to benefit the public, promote horse welfare, and elevate the equestrian sport. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has awarded over $1.1 million in grants since our first awards in 2003. The Foundation was born from the passionate belief shared by millions of people of all ages that horses play an important role in society in the competitive sports arena and in our everyday lives. GIVING BACK
50 charities received grants this year in three funding areas.
Public welfare grants were awarded for therapy for individuals with physical, emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities, life-threatening or other serious illnesses, and underserved, economically-disadvantaged and "at-risk" youth, including scholarships, financial aid, riding apparel and equipment, certified riding instructors, transportation, and horse care.
Horse welfare grants were awarded for horse rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and retirement, including feed, supplements, tack, grooming supplies, horse gear, farrier, veterinary care, equipment, and capital improvements. They were also awarded for equine ambulance services as well as veterinary education and research.
Equestrian sport grants were award for scholarships, awards, youth involvement, relief for equestrians in need, and programs to promote public education and awareness.
We hope you will visit the websites of these charities and read about their compelling stories. Learn More >>

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Funds for grants have been raised almost entirely from two special events - one held in February during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida and one held in June during the Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show in Westport, Connecticut.
Moving forward, we will be working hard to increase our donor base to generate enough funds to accept all the grant requests that meet our requirements. In the coming year, we are adding a third event at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, and have established the EQUUS Horse Whisperers program for donors who wish to make a lasting commitment to the charities selected for grant awards.
