EQUUS Foundation

Pennsylvania National Horse Show joins EQUUS Foundation Alliance

The EQUUS Foundation is pleased to welcome the Pennsylvania National Horse Show Foundation (PNHS) as a member of the EQUUS Foundation Alliance.

As the charitable arm of the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA, the PNHS Foundation supports projects and programs which focus on the education and training of persons in equestrian endeavors. Goals include the support of therapeutic riding programs and the education of equestrian experience for safe and fun riding practices.

An exciting addition to this year's Pennsylvania National Horse Show is the Inaugural Therapeutic Riding Championship and Therapy Horse of the Year award. Riders have worked to qualify this summer by showing at one of the following local Pennsylvania horse shows: Columbia Riding Club on July 10; Benefit for the Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program on August 6 at the Gettysburg Riding Club; and Leg Up Farm Horse Show on September 10 at the farm in Mt. Wolf. All riders who participated in the designated classes at one of these shows have been invited to ride at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show.

Friday, October 21, 2016 is being dedicated as "Foundation Friday". The Therapeutic Championship Reception presented by the EQUUS Foundation will be held on Friday evening from 5pm to 9pm, on the LB Smith Ford Lincoln Balcony overlooking the competitive arena, for the riders, their families, 2016 PNHS Foundation grant recipients, and friends of the PNHS.

Guests will have the opportunity to watch a jumper class preceding the Therapeutic Championship. The pinning will take place in center ring and also include the award of the 2016 PNHS Foundation Therapy Horse of the Year.

"We are excited to give these riders a venue as special as the Pennsylvania National Horse Show to showcase their skills,” said Rebecca Kinsley, PNHS Foundation Director.

The Board of Directors of the EQUUS Foundation established its Alliance program in 2011 to recognize the contributions of non-profit organizations involved in the equine community whose activities and programs complement and enhance the mission of the EQUUS Foundation.

"Partnering with national organizations who share our passion for horses helps ensure that we can continue our efforts to not only rescue and rehabilitate unwanted horses now, but also prevent unwanted horses in the future by re-training and re-homing horses for new careers, including those serving the special needs and veterans communities . . . 'Because where they go next, matters!'," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President.
