2022 EQUUS Foundation Funding Cycle Opens on January 1
Announcing new Mentor Accreditation
Informed giving is at the heart of the EQUUS Foundation mission to protect America's horses from peril and strengthen the horse-human bond. The EQUUS Foundation is committed to investing in programs with the greatest impact on minimizing the conditions that lead to abuse and neglect, and the threat of slaughter by:
• Finding homes for at-risk horses and horses in transition,
• Providing a safety net for owners enduring hardship to keep their horses,
• Ensuring a safe haven for aged horses, and
• Increasing opportunities for more horses to engage with people in new and innovative ways.
Grants are awarded from donations received by individuals and organizations to directly support the care of equines at EQUUS Foundation Guardian charities. Equine charities earn the Guardian designation annually by demonstrating a commitment to public transparency through their willingness to make comprehensive data about their programs, horse care practices, and governance available for public scrutiny. The funding cycle for 2022 grants opens on January 1.

New Guardian Designation Requirements
While the Guardian designation is awarded on the basis of transparency and accountability to the public, and is not an endorsement, starting in 2022, to attain the Guardian designation, equine charities will also need to comply with specific requirements for business and equine welfare practices outlined here.
"The updated Guardian designation requirements and the new Mentor Accreditation requirements resulted from recommendations made by equine charities involved with equine rescue, transition and retirement as well as equine charities involved with conducting Equine Assisted Services," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President. "It was gratifying to discover the willingness of these charities to set the bar as high as possible, especially in the area of equine welfare. We are excited to have the opportunity to announce our first Mentors in the spring of 2022."

Dates Set for 2022 Guardian Webinar Series

1. OVERVIEW & DISCUSSION OF NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR 2022
TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2022 | 1 PM - 2 PM EST
An overview of the EQUUS Foundation grant process, a step-by-step through each of the sections, and an overview of the new Guardian requirements. All equine charities seeking the Guardian designation are encouraged to attend.
2. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT BASICS
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2022 | 1 PM - 2 PM EST
A guide to understand and complete the Guardian financial section geared towards equine charities that file the 990-N and the 990-EZ. The webinar will focus on how to complete the EQUUS Foundation Pro Forma 990.
3. OVERVIEW OF GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCTING EQUINE ASSISTED SERVICES
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2022 | 1 PM - 2 PM EST
A discussion of the EQUUS Foundation Guidelines for Conducting Equine Assisted Services and guidance on how to complete the specific sections pertaining to Equine Assisted Services. The webinar will include a discussion on the difference between Equine Assisted Services and Community Outreach programs benefitting the public. Equine charities that conduct Equine Assisted Services and community outreach are encouraged to attend.
4. OVERVIEW, WRAP UP AND Q&A
TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2022 | 1 PM - 2 PM EST
A step-by-step through each of the sections concluding with a Q&A. All equine charities seeking the Guardian designation are encouraged to attend.
