Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service
Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.
Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
To improve the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy. The vision of Reins of Life drives every program and is three-fold: To promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of all involved in the program; To educate the community regarding the benefits of riding as therapy, and the abilities of children and adults with disabilities; and To improve the attitudes of society toward persons with disabilities.
Therapeutic Riding Leaders And SidewalkersMinimum Age: 13Class volunteers needed. Sign up for 1 class or several. Minimum time requirement: 1 1/2 hours/week. Sidewalk with riders. No experience necessary. Training provided. Be a horse leader if experienced with horses. Fall session dates: 8-23 through 10-16. Classes Monday - Thursday & Saturday mornings.
Horse Feeders - A.M. Or P.M.Minimum Age: 13Need volunteers to feed horses once a week at our Michigan City and South Bend centers. Time required: approximately 2 hours/feeding. Some horse experience preferable but not required. Training provided.
