Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Horse Welfare
Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
USERL is a non-profit organization dedicated to the compassionate care of equines. Our mission is to save, protect, and rehabilitate equines in need. We rescue abused, neglected, or abandoned equines; provide them with care and rehabilitation; and finally find them a compatible, loving home. We believe that education is the long-term solution to improving the lives of equines.
VolunteersUSERL is a volunteer based nonprofit. There are numerous opportunities to offer your assistance to help the horses, whether through fostering, organizing and staffing fundraisers, assisting at the Quarantine Barns, or clerical work. Foster, Adoption and Volunteer Coordinator opportunities are also available. Just a few hours or many, any help is appreciated.
USERL operates in NC and VA, and is starting regions in IN, KY, IO and CO.
HayUSERL fosters typically cover basic feed/hay expenses as an in-kind tax deductible donation. The Quarantine/rehab foster farms, however, house numerous horses and require large amounts of hay. Donations to their hay supplier are very much appreciated, as well as donated horse quality hay (square and round bales).
FeedUSERL fosters cover basic feed and hay expenses as an in-kind tax deductible donation. The Quarantine Barns, however, house numerous horses that have high feed expenses when in rehabilitation for weight gain. Donations to feed suppliers are very much appreciated, as well as donations of feed. Please use the Contact Us feature first to determine brand and type of feed being used.
Veterinary CareUSERL covers all veterinary expenses for horses in rehabilitation and in the foster program and is the highest expense in assisting these horses. Donations to veterinary providers is very much appreciated. Please use the Contact Us feature for information regarding direct donations to providers.
Halters, Leads, Grooming Supplies, Medical ItemsDonations of new or gently used halters and leads are always needed as each horse receives one of each when coming into the program. Grooming brushes, shampoo, detangler sprays and fly spray are also very helpful. Medical items most needed are leg wraps and quilts, vetrap, antibiotic ointment and bandage supplies. If you have items such as these that you don't need anymore, donate them to a regional Quarantine Barn to stock their supplies.
