Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
SIRE's mission is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding and related activities.

Horse-related programs:
SIRE primarily provides therapeutic riding to nearly 250 clients with special needs per week. We serve ages three and older, with the most common diagnosis being autism spectrum disorders. In addition, we have programs tailored for schools, ground lessons, and our Horses for Armed Forces program. Finally, SIRE has an extensive education and training program for volunteers and aspiring therapeutic horsemanship professionals.

Non-horse-related programs:
We do not have any non-horse-related programs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Barn And Grounds Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Gardening, carpentry, poop scooping, tractor work - you'll have a variety of choices should you opt to be a grounds volunteer at SIRE.

Office Volunteers
Minimum Age: 14
Office volunteers help with data entry and paperwork. At least some of the work available can be done at home.

Special Event Volunteers
Minimum Age: 14
Special event volunteers help plan specific events or serve as volunteers on the day of the event. Our premier events are our gala in May and our ride-a-thon in October. Others include the all-SIRE horse show, also in May.

Lesson (arena) Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Lesson (or arena) volunteers serve as horse leaders - grooming, tacking and handling the lesson horse - or as sidewalkers - providing verbal encouragement and/or physical support to the rider. Ideally, you'll commit to participating for a block of 1-3 lessons one day a week for a semester.
