Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service
Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
To enhance the lives of people with special needs through horse related activities.
Horse LeaderMinimum Age: 14Horse Leaders must be someone with horse experience. They are in charge of a horse for a therapeutic riding lesson. The Horse Leader helps with grooming and tacking the horse before each lesson, leading the horse during a lesson, and taking the tack off at the end each lesson.
Side WalkerMinimum Age: 14Sidewalkers assist with therapeutic horseback riding lessons by walking next to a Rider and providing assistance as needed. This may be providing physical support, repeating instructions, or helping the Rider to ride correctly.
New volunteers do not need to have any horse experience. TEC offers training for new volunteers before each session.
Chore VolunteerMinimum Age: 14Chore Volunteers at TEC help with the day to day chores at our facility. This includes taking the horses to the pastures in the morning, cleaning the stalls, cleaning and filling water buckets, feeding the horses, and bringing the horses in at the end of the day.
Our horses need to be taken care of every day, so TEC needs volunteers to help with the chores 365 days a year.
