Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
At Equest, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with diverse needs partnering with horses to bring hope and healing through equine assisted activities and therapies.


Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.


Volunteer Opportunities


Program Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Equest is a dynamic facility that utilizes over 400 volunteers a week to create a safe and effective environment for our clients and horses. We encourage you to become a partner with us as we look to the future.

Adults and teenagers who are interested in assisting children and adults with disabilities are invited to participate in our therapeutic horsemanship programs

Pals With Pitchforks
Minimum Age: 12
Come out any weekday morning between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm and help our fabulous barn and facilities staff take care of our amazing therapy herd. Clean stalls, sweep, water, help with feed, hay and shavings, and, if comfortable, help with turn out and bringing horses in, and other stable tasks.

Full volunteer training recommended; but day of on the job training available; volunteer application or one day form required

12 and up with accompanying parent or other responsible adult

14 and up otherwise

Special Olympics Area Games Volunteers
Minimum Age: 12
Join us for one of our most wonderful days of the year:
Special Olympics Area Games on a Sunday in March/April 2019

All Program Spring Horse Show Volunteers
Minimum Age: 12
Join us as all of our clients show the world what they can do in our All Program Spring Horse Show- Equitation and Trail Classes, Carriage Driving Demonstration, Drill Team Performance and more.
Saturday, May 12th from 7:00 am- 6:00 pm; full day and half day shifts available am or pm; trained volunteers and new volunteers welcome
New volunteers can help award ribbons, help at registration, help as trail and gate monitors, help as rider and refreshment ambassadors, help with concessions, parking and more.

Summer Program Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Attend a training at the Texas Horse Park on Saturday, June 2nd or Saturday, June 9th from 8:30 am- 2:30 pm and register to be a class volunteer in our summer program. After training with our wonderful staff, patient horses and veteran fellow volunteers, you will help groom and tack horses to get them ready for classes and therapy sessions and act as leaders, sidewalkers or class assistants in these classes and sessions. Summer Schedule affords great flexibility. Starts Tuesday, May 29th and runs through Saturday, July 8th. NO CLASSES week of July 4th.

Fall Program Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Attend a training at the Texas Horse Park on Saturday, August 18th or Saturday, August 25th from 8:30 am- 2:30 pm and register to be a class volunteer in our Fall program. After training with our wonderful staff, patient horses and veteran fellow volunteers, you will help groom and tack horses to get them ready for classes and therapy sessions and act as leaders, sidewalkers or class assistants in these classes and sessions. Fall Schedule affords great flexibility. Starts Thursday, September 6th and runs through Saturday, December 8th. NO CLASSES week of 10/22 or the week of Thanksgiving.

Spring 2019 Program Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Attend a training at the Texas Horse Park in late January 2019 and register to be a class volunteer in our Spring 2019 program. After training on a Saturday in January with our wonderful staff, patient horses and veteran fellow volunteers, you will help groom and tack horses to get them ready for classes and therapy sessions and act as leaders, sidewalkers or class assistants in these classes and sessions. Spring Schedule affords great flexibility. Starts late January or early February and runs through early May. NO CLASSES week of DISD Spring Break or Easter Weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday).

Ridefest Volunteer
Minimum Age: 14
Join us Saturday, October 20th, 2018 for the most fun and special event of the Year- Ridefest Trail Ride Festival and Fundraiser. Community Volunteers join trained Program volunteers to make this great day happen with our client families. Carnival games and bounce houses, face painting, petting zoo, trail rides and activities and more await your talents, kindness and energy! Plan to spend the afternoon and get a real feel for the Equest Team and family. Prior training not required to help with event administration, games and activities. One day forms and applications can be used for this day.
