Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Horse Welfare

Our organization operates programs involved with horse rescue, foster care, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement.

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization's primary activity is equine rescue, adoption & retirement.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Our mission is to rescue and care for any unwanted horse including those that have been neglected, abused, abandoned or are at risk of going to slaughter. If the horse can be rehabilitated and adopted we will find a loving, informed home for them. If suitable homes cannot be found, NSHR has committed itself to allowing its permanent residents to live out their lives in a safe, stress-free environment.

Horse-related programs:
North Shore Horse Rescue and Sanctuary rescues any unwanted horse and provides a calm stress-free environment for the horses. We are open to the public every day from 10:00 - 4:00. We provide school tour, volunteer hours for organized groups. We have monthly volunteer orientations. We also have a program called Heart2Heart that provides an equine facilitated learning program. Together horse and human begin a journey that leads to a place of trust, healing and awareness through the knowledge of the power of the herd and nondominant patterns of communications.

Non-horse-related programs:
All of our programs center around the relationship of humans and horses.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Day And Training
Minimum Age: 16
We will be hosting a volunteer orientation on May 7, 2017 from 10:00 - 12:00. Come ready to work, meet some great horses and new friends.

Volunteers Wanted
Minimum Age: 16
We are looking for volunteers to help muck paddocks, groom horses, walk horses, and just give horsey hugs. We even need people to take care of our chickens.

Wish List Items

Gator Wanted
We are looking for a used or new gator to help delivery food and hay to our 32 horses.

We are currently seeking applications for sponsorship of our horses. Donations on a monthly basis are greatly appreciated to help support the horses. Due to the fact that we are a sanctuary, many of our horses require medication and supplements to keep them as healthy as possible. This can be an enormous cost to the facility. Sponsorships of any monetary denominations can be helpful.

*Guardians are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations. The Guardian Designation is awarded annually.
