Grass is Back! Field Reconditioning Completed for the 2019 Fairfield June Benefit Horse Show Featuring $50,000 Grand Prix
The Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show, Tuesday-Saturday, June 18-22, 2019, will be the venue for the EQUUS Foundation's Annual Benefit Luncheon on Saturday, June 22, 2019 featuring the $50,000 Fairfield Grand Prix.
Focused on improving the exhibitor experience, enhancements for the 2019 show not only include increasing the prize money of the Grand Prix from $30,000 to $50,000 but also completing a much-needed reconditioning project of the polo field.
Fairfield is also partnering with the Ox Ridge June Charity Horse Show, June 11-16, 2019, to offer a Jumper Challenge. The rider who accumulates the most points in the Jumper classes of 1.20m or higher combined at both Ox Ridge June Charity Horse Show, June 11-16, 2019, and Fairfield, will win a $5,000 cash award.
"The reconditioning project of polo field began in March," said Wynatte Chu, Co-Chair of the Fairfield show. The grounds crew de-compacted the field using a Verti-Quake to improve water infiltration, air exchange, and produce a much healthier turfgrass soil profile.
The crew of Double D Turf, a specialist in turfgrass aeration, used Deep Tine Aerators to maximize water percolation, stimulate root growth, and improve air flow to the root system. Sand was then spread over the field to add a more cushiony feeling, followed by topsoil and seed.

"To give the field as much time as possible to grow and regenerate, the field is closed to riding until just before the June show. We think exhibitors will be pleased with the outcome," said Wynatte Chu.
"We are looking forward to the most exciting grand prix at Fairfield ever," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President.
