National Horse Protection Day on March 1 will kick off a week-long campaign to celebrate the many triumphant collaborations between humans and their equine partners and the significant impact of horses in our lives.
"The welfare of America's horses is in our hands," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President. "With the number of horses being transported across our borders for slaughter dropping dramatically from an all-time high of 166,572 in 2012 to 19,996 in 2024, there is no better opportunity than right now to put an end to abuse and neglect, and the threat of the slaughter pipeline. Any amount is horrific and no amount is acceptable!"
It's no coincidence that on March 2, the EQUUS Foundation will honor the US Paralympic Dressage Team in Wellington, Florida, as the recipient of the EQUUS Foundation Spirit Award. "The US Paralympic team's success in Paris is a shining example that with dedication, hard work, and a focus on what is possible, truly amazing things can happen," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President.
