Bear
Children, Horses and Adults in PartnerShip (CHAPS) Equine Assisted Therapy (Mountain)
Bear AKA Shorty, a large pony with a BIG personality, participates in our mental health program, driving program and riding program. Occasionally, he gets to go visit veterans at the Veterans' Home of Wyoming. Shorty is a favorite with clients. He loves to play with zipper pulls on folks' jackets and will "smile" almost on command, but mostly because he wants to. Shorty is an excellent therapy horse. He knows who needs a willing partner and who needs their boundaries pushed a little, depending on what a client needs or what activity we are doing.

Tyra
Colorado Horse Rescue (Mountain)
Rescued at a local livestock auction alongside five other yearlings, Tyra was granted a second chance through personalized rehabilitation and training at Colorado Horse Rescue. Due to a traumatic start in life, Tyra was quite fearful and shut down. Although with consistency and patience, Tyra's curiosity was revealed. Tyra formed a new foundation from a healthy restart at CHR and a quality training foster home. Now, Tyra awaits being matched to a horse-loving home.

Stetson
Drifter's Hearts of Hope (Mountain)
Stetson's life started out rocky: being dumped at an auction just two weeks after his birth. Never one to let his beginning limit him, he's proven to be quite an incredible fellow. Stetson now leads and picks up his feet with the confidence and composure of a horse much beyond his years. Supporting him supports what DHOH stands for: every horse deserves a second chance. It's all the most heartbreaking when foals' chances are so limited from birth, and we're so happy that Stetson was able to be rescued and have a bright future.

Nugget
Hearts & Horses (Mountain)
Nugget and Alice
Nugget is surprising. He’s young-- only 8 and yet he is one of the most versatile equines in our herd. His day may start with a 10 year old and end with our oldest participant -- Alice who is 96. He works in every program on property and serves a wide range of needs. There is no participant Nugget cannot reach. Nugget makes everyone smile -- especially Alice!

Bonita
Mountain Valley Horse Rescue (Mountain)
Bonita is a sweet, 6 month old filly that came to MVHR after being rescued from severe neglect. Virtually unhandled, but curious about the kind people she has met, and quickly gaining weight and recovering from parasites and malnutrition, MVHR is looking forward to helping Bonita find a life free from the uncertainty that were her first few months.

Sky's the Limit
New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch (Mountain)
Sky's the Limit tugged at our heartstrings when he arrived at our rescue ranch in 2017 severely emaciated and in need of intensive, 24-hour medical care. Weighing only 700 pounds and nothing but skin and skeleton, he could barely lift his head because his body was shutting down physically and emotionally. For the first few weeks with us, he was fed around the clock every 2-4 hours and began to show improvement. He started nickering and lifting his head when volunteers fed him. We are proud to say that Sky found the strength to fight and defeat what would have been a tragic fate – thanks to volunteers pouring love into his heart and giving him a reason to live. There simply is no limit to his potential, and we look forward to helping him find his "happily ever after."

Helo
Right Step, Inc. (Mountain)
Big Hugs for Helo from client Damien!
A few years ago, Helo’s owner, one of our volunteers, loaned Helo to us when we were temporarily in need of an additional horse for our programs. An unflappable and kind horse, he was a natural for the job! After the temporary job, he went back to his everyday life of trail riding, camping, and dabbling in dressage. As he got a bit older, his owner loaned Helo to us again. He's been with us full-time since May of 2020 and is now an indispensable part of our program and our go-to for riders who need the ramp to mount. It's also wonderful to know that when the time comes that he needs to retire, he will have a forever home with his wonderful, loving owner.
