Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service
Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.Our organization uses horses to provide our services that are cared for and sheltered by another organization(s).
Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The mission of UCP of Greater Sacramento is to provide programs and services that improve the independence, productivity, and quality of life of people with developmental disabilities and their families.
UCP Saddle Pals - Facility MaintenanceMinimum Age: 12General maintenance of the barn, including: cleaning up manure, sweeping walkways, painting, or cleaning. We are also interested in anyone with professional training; for example: carpentry skills, electricians or plumbers.
Must be a minimum of 12 years old, attend an orientation, and commit to a minimum of 15 hours.
UCP Saddle Pals - SidewalkerMinimum Age: 15Work directly with the student to provide emotional, cognitive and physical support.
Must be at least 15, be able to walk at the horse's pace for 30 minutes, complete a training course, and commit at least one hour a week for a complete session. No horse experience is necessary!
UCP Saddle Pals - LeaderMinimum Age: 16Lead the horse during lessons. Work directly with the student to provide emotional, cognitive and physical support. Must be a minimum of 16 years old, have extensive horse experience, complete a sidewalker and a leader training course, and commit to at least one hour a week for one complete session.
