For the Love of Horses

All horses, even champions of the racetrack and the show ring, are only one unlucky step away from abuse, neglect and slaughter.

our mission

The EQUUS Foundation is the only national animal welfare charity in the United States 100% dedicated to safeguarding the comfort and dignity of America's horses throughout their lives and sharing their magic and power with as many people as possible. Our mission is to protect America's horses and strengthen the bond between horses and people.

Most horses will have multiple homes during their lifetimes, but thousands of horses suffer from abuse, neglect and being shipped off to slaughter each year.

Help us eliminate abuse and enrich the lives of people by increasing the number & capacity of organizations dedicated to:

Retraining and rehoming horses in transition;

Making the unique abilities of horses to
empower, teach and heal available to
more people.

Harsh Realities
Viewed as commodities, too many horses are regarded as disposable for profit when they no longer serve their owners’ purpose - when their owners cannot, or no longer wish to, care for them. Many are young, healthy and have untapped potential.

Boundless Opportunities

The EQUUS Foundation supports banning horse slaughter in the United States and banning the transportation of horses for slaughter across our borders or abroad.

Today, the benefits of the horse-human bond are more apparent than ever before. There are solutions to horse slaughter within our reach.

Horses thrill us as athletes, but they are also amazing teachers, companions and healers. Many more horses can be elevating the lives of people with and without special needs.
