Recognizing achievement and the impact of horses in our lives
The EQUUS Foundation and the United States Equestrian Federation joined together in 2009 to establish the EQUUS Foundation Humanitarian Award to celebrate the humanitarian achievements made by a member of the equestrian world.
From improving the health and welfare of the horse to promoting and expanding the general public's appreciation and respect of the diverse role of horses, the recipient of this award is an individual or a group of individuals who has devoted considerable personal time to making the quality of life of our equine partners paramount.
The Horse Stars Hall of Fame was established by the EQUUS Foundation and the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) in 2013 as an interactive website to celebrate the extraordinary talent of horses and their magical and powerful bond with people. The purpose of the Horse Stars Hall of Fame is to honor the contributions of amazing horses, share the stories of their athletic and humanitarian feats, and build a more informed and compassionate America that values the bond between horses and people.
The inductees include horses selected by the EQUUS Foundation that have had or are having a life-changing or inspirational impact on the public as companions, teachers and healers and stellar, accomplished athletes selected by the USEF annually as the "USEF Horses of Honor".
The "Horse Whisperers" is our named awards program for a special group of people and organizations who are inspired by the magical and powerful impact horses have on our lives. Horse Whisperer awards may be named in honor of a family member, friend, associate, or in the memory of a loved one or a loved equine companion.
A select group of charities are designated as Horse Whisperer Award Recipients each year by the EQUUS Foundation Board of Directors.
The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation and the EQUUS Foundation joined together to establish the EQUUS Foundation Research Fellows program in 2011 to emphasize the importance of equine research, to reward researchers for their contributions, and to meet the increasing need to train future equine veterinary researchers.
The EQUUS Foundation Research Fellows program emphasizes the importance of assisting equine researchers in their exploration of horse health care topics.
The EQUUS Foundation is proud to be the sponsor of the Washington International Horse Show Honor & Service Award. The award recognizes a horse, individual or organization each year that best demonstrates the values of honor and service embodied by Klinger, a member of the Caisson platoon of the 3d United States Infantry (The Old Guard), who was the inspiration for the award and its first recipient.
The EQUUS Foundation established the Spirit Award in 2023 to honor an equestrian who has significantly elevated the image and desirability of horses. The recipient is selected by the EQUUS Foundation Board of Directors.
