Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy program partners with horses, utilizing their movement and the important bond between horse and rider, to promote improved physical and emotional well-being and independence for individuals with disabilities. At Pegasus we provide therapeutic exercise in various forms always emphasizing ability and maintaining an environment of respect and trust for our riders, volunteers and horses.

Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Volunteer Opportunities

Program Volunteers
Minimum Age: 14
Pegasus is always looking for program volunteers! These volunteers assist with our lessons. We use volunteers as sidewalkers. Sidewalkers walk next to our riders with disabilities and provide physical and/or emotional support. We also use volunteers to lead the horses. No prior experience with horses or disabilities is required to be a volunteer. Pegasus will provide the necessary training for the job. We use volunteers weekday evenings, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Saturday and Sunday.

*Guardians are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations. The Guardian Designation is awarded annually.
