Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy program partners with horses, utilizing their movement and the important bond between horse and rider, to promote improved physical and emotional well-being and independence for individuals with disabilities. At Pegasus we provide therapeutic exercise in various forms always emphasizing ability and maintaining an environment of respect and trust for our riders, volunteers and horses.
Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public ServiceOur organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.
Our organization conducts Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) programs with instructors, specialists, counselors, trainers and/or facilitators (full-time, part-time, independent contractors, and/or service providers) who have certified training applicable for people with special needs and specific to the program offerings - either on staff or accompanying clients when participating in our programs
Our organization provides community outreach and/or public education programs involving horses.
100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.
Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.
Program VolunteersMinimum Age: 14Pegasus is always looking for program volunteers! These volunteers assist with our lessons. We use volunteers as sidewalkers. Sidewalkers walk next to our riders with disabilities and provide physical and/or emotional support. We also use volunteers to lead the horses. No prior experience with horses or disabilities is required to be a volunteer. Pegasus will provide the necessary training for the job. We use volunteers weekday evenings, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Saturday and Sunday.
