Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
The mission of Rocking Horse Ranch Therapeutic Riding Program is to provide equine assisted activities and therapy to children and adults with physical, cognitive, or psychological disabilities in eastern North Carolina.
Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service
Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.
100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.
Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.
Lesson Program VolunteerMinimum Age: 16Lesson program volunteers work as part of a team with each individual rider. Depending upon their experience, they may act as either a horse leader, or a sidewalker directly supporting the rider. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one 30 minute lesson per week for the duration of the lesson session, to provide continuity for each student. A lesson volunteer must be able to walk briskly for 30 minutes in order to keep pace with a horse and possible help support a rider.
Fund Raising AssistantsMinimum Age: 18Volunteers are welcome to assist with planning and execution of the two principle annual fund raisers that support program operations. The Derby Dash Bash is held the first Saturday in May, in conjunction with the running of the Kentucky Derby. The Ghoulish Gallop 5K race and 1 Mile Fun Walk is held every fall. Assistance is needed to help with event planning, to secure monetary sponsorships, and to staff both events.
