Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation): Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Spirit Therapies is a non-profit therapeutic riding center that positively impacts the lives of the physically and mentally challenged through connecting with trained therapy horses, certified instructors and compassionate volunteers. We will educate and bring awareness of this valuable therapy to the public, and one day be able to offer therapeutic riding free of charge.

Horse-related programs:
THERAPEUTIC RIDING - Therapeutic Riding is mounted therapy in which people with disabilities ride horses to relax, and to develop muscle tone.Lesson plans are formatted for each rider, constructing attainable goals and specially designed activities. As every rider is different, we make sure we put together the right program to be as effective as possible.

EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING (EAL)-Spirit Therapies is certified through the Equine Assisted Growth & Learning association (EAGALA) to provide Equine Assisted Leaning services. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) focuses on experiential, ground-based activities. The EAGALA certified Equine Specialist works with the client in creative horse-centered activities designed to address specific treatment goals, producing spectacular results. Often during a session, the horse or experience can initiate an "Aha" moment that impacts that client's way of thinking or behaving. After the session, the client takes away key experiences and can begin to make lifelong changes.

HORSES HEALING HEROES (HHH) - This program focuses on serving both active duty military personnel and veterans who have been diagnosed with physical and/or mental challenges. Horse-assisted therapies contribute to emotional and social readjustment by increasing self-esteem, self-sufficiency, and self-confidence, along with a sense of mastery.

Non-horse-related programs:
Spirit provides a farm-like environment. There are 2 dogs, 3 cats and 13 egg-laying chickens on the property in addition to the horses. Everyone (volunteers, riders, visitors) are greeted by the dogs and cats upon arrival. In addition, the volunteers and riders (with supervision) can go into the hen-house to collect fresh eggs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Various Volunteer Opportunities Available
Minimum Age: 14
Spirit welcomes new volunteers and encourage them to become involved in whatever area of our program that fits them best. Helping around the barn feeding and grooming the horses as well as cleaning the stalls are tasks that are necessary every day.

We will also train individuals to work with certified instructors in helping hands-on with the riders during their lessons.

For those who love horses and people, but who might not feel comfortable working with the horses and riders right away, we can always use help in the operational side of our program such as office work or helping with special events.

Our volunteers are our ambassadors to the community, and we encourage them to tell everyone they meet about SPIRIT.If you have the time to give, Spirit Therapies has a place for you. Come look upon our shining SPIRIT and help make a disabled rider’s wish come true.
We can always use help organizing and putting on events, manning information booths at other organizations’ events, doing public relations, working on fund raising drives, and doing office administration
