Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Horse Welfare

Our organization operates programs involved with horse rescue, foster care, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement.

Our organization's primary activity is equine retirement.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of horses.

75% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Humanity for Horses is a non-profit organization devoted to rescuing horses from slaughter, abuse, neglect and abandonment providing them sanctuary for life. We also free the other animals that have been imprisoned with them in the abusive or abandoned situations. We do not adopt out these horses.

Horse-related programs:
We rescue all breeds of horses, currently providing sanctuary for 310 horses. We are an approved sanctuary for Off-Track Thoroughbreds through California Retirement Management Account (CARMA) and Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA). We have accreditation with Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS). We partner with sheriff and animal control departments, Humane Societies and other horse rescues in the western USA to intake seized and surrendered horses. We are building our sanctuary on 151 acres of beautiful land at the base of Mount Shasta in Northern California. We have completed work on an equine hospital and treatment facility to provide onsite medical care. We completed construction of a new 96' x 50' Pole Barn, and have recently completed several large turnout pastures. Future development plans include programs for children and elderly whereby both horses and humans can be healed.

Non-horse-related programs:
We rescue and rehabilitate large animals such as llamas, alpacas, donkeys, sheep and goats. These animals also have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment. Some of our other animals have come to us because another rescue sanctuary was unable to continue their care.
