Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Donates over $35,000 to The EQUUS Foundation

WESTPORT, CT – March 4, 2010– Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) donated over $35,000 to The EQUUS Foundation on behalf of the veterinarians who made qualifying purchases of the company’s equine products during the last five months of 2009. BIVI selected The EQUUS Foundation as the beneficiary of its equine product sales donation program in August of 2009.

As part of BIVI’s equine product sales donation program, the company pledged to donate $100 for every 500 doses of qualifying equine vaccines purchased between August 3 and December 31, 2009. Nine different equine vaccines are part of the donation program including the Calvenza®, Cephalovac®, Equi-Flu® families, and the Strepvax® and Tetguard® vaccines.

Boehring Ingelheim has a long standing tradition of supporting worthy organizations, and these types of programs bring animal owners, veterinarians and industry together to help improve the lives of people and their animals.

According to Dr. Jane Smith, executive director of BIVI’s equine division, the contribution, reaching nearly $36,000 by year end, greatly exceeded expectations. “The success of this program not only demonstrates the commitment BIVI has to providing quality products for horses but also the commitment of veterinarians to provide the very best treatment and services that enhance the human-animal bond.”

“We are so grateful to BIVI for selecting us as the beneficiary of its Equine Biological Clinic Program and for the donation of nearly $36,000. This is the largest donation we have ever received since we first started awarding grants in 2003. It will make a tremendous difference in the lives of horses and the people who benefit from them”, said Jenny Belknap, EQUUS Board Chairman. “Through partnerships with organizations like BIVI and the generosity of our donors, we are able to secure homes and useful lives for horses and to create a more compassionate America that values the role the horse plays in not just in the competitive arena but also in our everyday lives.

The EQUUS Foundation seeks to educate the public about horses; provide financial support through the award of grants; offer insight on management and financial practices of the charities through a thorough review of their operations; and provide a network of interested individuals for volunteer recruitment.”
