I met Ramshack shortly after his arrival to Thoroughbred Athletes in 2022 following a responsible retirement from the racetrack. He is a stunning bay gelding with a stripe that looks like it was sloppily painted on in two coats and has a precious pair of expressive ears. I really began to get to know Ramshack when he was pasture mates with a different horse I was adopting, Glitter. They were a beautiful duo. They would share food every meal and chase each other around the pasture. As I was taking Glitter to her new home, I began to wonder if I should have taken Ramshack, as well. I promised myself if I ever had the funds, I would go back for him. Thankfully in the meantime I was a volunteer and able to check in on him every week. What I love about him is his sensitive nature; you could see him feel it every time one of his friends was adopted and he was left behind. However, this also meant he was very affectionate. Ramshack simply loves love and connection. Toward the end of 2023 I revisited the idea of adopting Ramshack. He was a little quirky, and I began to worry about what could happen if he were to end up in a home where he wasn’t understood. It dawned on me that we had developed a special bond, and if I wanted to be sure he ended up in the right home, then it might as well be my own. I reached out to Lynn Sullivan and requested to adopt my long-time friend, Ramshack. I promised I would love him forever and that my trainer and I would find a job he is passionate about, even if that is just being my personal companion. I am hugely grateful to Thoroughbred Athletes for taking in Ramshack and allowing him to grow in a safe and loving environment. I am beyond excited to see where we go in this life together.
